[Portsmouth, UK – 14th May 2025] – Clean shipping innovator BAR Technologies has announced the appointment of Yıldız Saraç Williams as its new Technical Director, reinforcing the company’s momentum after a year of record growth and global expansion.

Yıldız brings over 12 years of marine consultancy experience from Lloyd’s Register, with expertise in environmental legislation, risk assessment, and ship performance modelling. She joins BAR Technologies at a pivotal time as the company scales up its operations to meet surging international demand for its wind-assisted propulsion and emissions-reduction technologies.

In 2024 alone, BAR Technologies grew its workforce by 20, with new hires across engineering, naval architecture, and commercial roles, reflecting a steep rise in interest from Asia, Europe, and beyond. The company’s flagship WindWings® solution, recently validated by DNV Maritime for delivering a 32% fuel reduction, is now in construction on additional vessels, with more in the pipeline.

“Decarbonising the maritime sector is one of the defining challenges of our time, and it’s something I’m deeply passionate about,” said Yıldız Saraç Williams. “I’m honoured to join BAR Technologies, a company at the forefront of sustainable innovation and to work alongside such a talented, creative team. What excites me most is being part of an environment where every contribution has a real impact and where we are collectively pushing the boundaries to shape a cleaner future for shipping.”

CEO John Cooper added: “Yıldız’s appointment reflects our commitment to technical leadership and sustainable growth. As we continue to scale globally, attracting outstanding talent like Yıldız ensures we stay ahead of the innovation curve, delivering transformative solutions for our clients and the wider industry.”

This appointment follows the planned departure of CTO Simon Schofield, who will remain on the company’s Board as a Non-Executive Director.

With Yıldız leading BAR Technologies’ growing technical team, the company is poised to expand its technology platforms, deepen global partnerships, and lead the transition to sustainable shipping worldwide.
