SCX Group is a Sheffield based company and brings together three specialist engineering companies (Street CraneXpress, SCX Special Projects and Burnand XH) to provide bespoke lifting solutions and moving structures, including overhead cranes for many of the UK’s Nuclear Power Stations and retractable stadium roofs such as Wimbledon Centre Court. It is a highly specialised company with expertise and experience in many industrial sectors across the UK and mainland Europe.

The challenge:

SCX Group approached Image Line to help them raise their profile in the nuclear industry. They were providing solutions for lifting, dismantling and removing in the fields of mechanical handling and overhead lifting equipment and controls – including their Special Projects division. The company’s custom designed high-integrity cranes and lifting solutions, coupled with their rigorous safety standards and moving expertise were proving to be an ideal fit for a number of Tier 1 projects under Government contracts at nuclear facilities across the country including Sellafield, Harwell, Hunterston, Hinkley, Trawsfynydd, Berkeley and Winfrith.

With plans for a new high-level waste (HLW) storage facility at Dounreay well under way, SCX’s Special Projects division was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and install a drum crane to be responsible for the handling of nuclear waste at the facility. The £22 million facility was to be an extension to the existing Dounreay Cementation Plant, providing more storage space for 500L stainless steel drums used to contain the encapsulated liquid waste. Image Line was tasked with increasing the SCX profile in this highly specialised industry sector.

The solution:

The media covering the nuclear industry is specialised and Image Line used its extensive industry database to target the core titles we believed would be receptive to a feature on the SCX Special Projects Division work at Dounreay using a drum crane.  Image Line contacted the leading publications covering the nuclear industry and ‘sold in’ the idea of a feature looking at the SCX operations both at Dounreay and across other nuclear sites. Once this had been agreed with the media Image Line provided the words and images for inclusion in the targeted features. SCX 1

The result:

Image Line obtained highly selective media coverage for the company’s work in the industry with NUCLEAR ENGINEERING INTERNATIONAL (one of the industry‘s leading publications) covering the work at Dounreay.

SCX Group and its Special Projects Division had a significant raised profile thanks to this feature and Image Line followed this up with smaller inserts into other trade and business publications following the publication.
