Launched in May 2018, the MaritimeMT brand builds on the work and experience of the Mediterranean Maritime Research and Training Centre (MMRTC), which was established in July 2010 as the training arm of the Malta Maritime Pilots Co-operative Society (MMP).
Established in March 2003, the Malta Maritime Pilots Co-operative Ltd. provides efficient marine vessel pilot services to the two main ports of Malta – the Grand Harbour and the Port of Marsaxlokk, as well as two smaller ports – that of Marsamxett and the Port of Mġarr, Gozo. It also provides consultancies relevant to pilotage, navigation and sea-faring. In 2011 the Co-operative provided more than 8,400 pilot services to vessels entering Maltese Ports.
MaritimeMT has been since its inception a DNV-GL Certified facility with full accreditation as a maritime training centre from Transport Malta. The centre is a one-stop shop for training, education, information, research and ancillary services for seafarers and shore-based personnel.
The holistic maritime curriculum that is constantly under review and development continues to strengthen the Training Centre’s position as a hub that caters for the needs not only of the Malta maritime sector but also of the International maritime community. This is done through the provision of STCW Training & certification; Ship Handling courses; Commercial Vessels accredited training, Super Yacht courses and any other bespoke training whether for seafarers or for shore based personnel.
