Amazon is working on self-driving cars, according to their new patent.  The patent deals with the complex task of navigating reversible lanes, typically used to manage commuter traffic when entering and leaving cities.  The inability to plan for reversible lanes means cars and trucks can’t optimise their routes by getting into the correct lanes well in advance.  This could be seen as one of the greatest benefits of self-driving cars.

While the patent does not give much information, the idea alone could give insight to the future of Amazon’s logistics division.  The company has been rumoured to be working on technology that would eliminate human drivers for the company.
