The recent ISO/PC283, Project Committee meeting held on 6 – 10 June in Toronto, Canada has agreed to move forward with the publication of a second Draft International Standard (DIS) for the highly anticipated ISO 45001 standard.

The first DIS of ISO 45001 failed to gain approval by the committee following a round of balloting from 12 February to 12 May that closed with a result of 71% in favour to 29% against. The DIS also raised over 3,000 comments of during the ballot that was further discussed in the recent meeting.

The development of ISO 45001 will now progress to a second Draft International Standard with final publication anticipated to be released by early 2017. The next Project Committee meeting scheduled for October 2016 will review the remaining comments submitted during the first DIS ballot and also finalise the content for the second DIS. As a result, publication of the final standard is now expected in the second half of 2017.
